A message from Premier Mark McGowan
Dear WA Football, It goes without saying, we are living through extreme times. The COVID-19 pandemic is touching every part of our world. This pandemic is a challenge that we can only meet with teamwork: the kind of teamwork the WA football community are known for. The WA Football Commission has asked me to write to all of their members and stakeholders to give them an update on what’s going on and what we are doing. This is a rapidly evolving situation, and the advice is constantly being updated. We are a multicultural community, and I know many of you have family, friends and loved ones throughout the world who have already been affected by this pandemic. This includes pausing the 2020 AFL season – something that only weeks ago was unthinkable. Here in Western Australia, we are taking every responsible precaution we can, ensuring that people take the measures they need to in order to stay safe, and keep their families safe. The State Government is working closely with the Federal Government, to boost the capacity of our health system, and ensure public health measures are implemented and enforced. Here are some ways you can help by keeping yourself, your family and the community safe:
We have taken steps to support local workers and local businesses by announcing a $607 million stimulus package for the state economy. We are doing everything we can and will continue to do more as the situation evolves. But we need your help. If you can, please support your local businesses– buy local produce, buy a cup of coffee, order take away meals. This helps businesses keep their staff employed and their doors open. If you’re looking for the most up to date information, you can visit https://www.wa.gov.au/ This will be a tough time for everyone in the community. Please be good to your fellow West Australians – be patient, be respectful and be kind. Take the health advice seriously. Stay away from work and school if you are unwell. We need everyone to do everything they can, so we can get through this. Your sincerely, Mark McGowan
